Moss-draped cypress trees, vibrant sunsets, pelicans perched on a piling, and big accident billboards; in Louisiana, they’re all a part of the scenery. You’d have to drive with your eyes closed to avoid seeing them, and honestly, at least in the case of the billboards, that may be their intent.

Why are they everywhere?

The reason for the size, quantity, and extravagant billboard displays has less to do with marketing and more to do with that carrot dangling at the end of the hood ornament.

Big trucks pack size and weight.  With that comes extra stopping distance. Think of that next time you use that space between them and the leading vehicle when making a quick lane change. 

When a passenger vehicle collides with an 80,000-pound truck, the result is usually severe. More damage means a higher case value.

Don’t look at the numbers. Look beyond, if that’s even possible, with the sheer coverage some of these ad spends have. Give truckers more space and more time.
