Game Day Driving : Avoiding DUI & Distracted Driving Accidents
With NIL, 5-for-5, court orders, and tensions with the SEC, there are enough distractions to fill an entire Game Day broadcast. Like the Tigers, fans need to tune out distractions and take care of business. For the team, that means knowing their assignments and sticking to the game plan. For fans, it means enjoying the tailgate while ensuring you have a plan for getting home safely. Not every situation is as easy to navigate as the Clemson defense.
For starters, plan how you’re getting home. Whether you’re utilizing a designated driver or arranging a rideshare, have the play called in advance. Since the unexpected can happen, be ready to pivot to your secondary read. Leave the improvising to the Tigers’ starting quarterback.
Designated drivers are your safest bet, especially with all of the traffic considerations that come with game day. Take care of your MVP by providing plenty of non-alcoholic options as part of their recruiting package. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that one person was killed every 44 minutes in a drunk driving crash in 2024.
Distractions are just as dangerous as alcohol, especially when it includes postgame traffic following a big game. Pedestrians, contraflow, small kids, nights, and intoxicated fans can make your exit from campus one that requires your full attention. Checking scores, scrolling social media, and reading the Scoreboard can wait until you’re safely home. NHTSA reported that distracted driving claimed the lives of 3,208 people in 2024.
Turn on the postgame show or put “Neck” on repeat as you navigate your way back home. Watch carefully at intersections and crosswalks, anticipate pedestrians, and leave space between you and the vehicle in front of you.
It’s shaping up to be a thrilling season, so leave all of the excitement on the field and enjoy the ride. And should you need an experienced attorney, my team is available 24/7/365 to help coach you through it.
